May 20, 2019  Outlook for Mac clients cannot connect to Exchange Server. Applies to: Outlook 2016 for MacOutlook for Mac for Office 365. You cannot connect to a server that is running Microsoft Exchange Server from a Microsoft Outlook 2016 for Mac or Outlook for Mac 2011 client after disabling Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) on the server.

Configuring Your Account

  1. Open Outlook for Mac 2016.
  2. From the Tools menu, select Accounts.
  3. Click the “+” in the bottom left-hand corner of the Accounts screen and select Exchange…
  4. On the screen that appears, in the E-mail address field, enter your full email address e.g., ttrojan@usc.edu.
  5. Under Authentication:
    1. Method: User Name and Password
    2. User name: enter your full email address e.g., ttrojan@usc.edu.
    3. Password: enter your USC NetID passwordCheck Configure Automatically
  6. Click Add Account.
  7. NOTE: If Outlook is redirected to the auto-discover server, click Allow.
